So it seems to my eyes that we are as surfers becoming quicker at browsing, interacting and skimming. This is of course obvious to anyone who looks at stats and plummeting dwell times for most sites, or anyone who has glanced at Twitter.
The following article (http://adage.com/digitalnext/article?article_id=145530) names these users Hyperpassive in the context of location aware mobile apps. Hyperpassive is the logical conclusion of info overload, plus our work and play lives becoming intertwined (turn off that Facebook app).
Personally I have noticed a difference in the way clients and users responds to web design with the advent of the iPhone. I think this is particularly significant and the effects have been subtle but profound. For example, I now use Facebook much more now than I ever did because the App interface on the iPhone is so much clearer and easier to use than the browser version. It gives you what you need without the extra nonsense (including ads). The new theFWA mobile site is also taking just what you need, and nothing else. At last, hopefully, and for the majority of sites and applications it’s about the information you need, quickly, clearly and painlessly.
