Nice to see in a recession that some brands are putting it out there. FedEx, the courier service, electronics giant Sony, technology firm IBM, and Lavazza coffee are some of the brands promoting their relationship with the 125th Wimbledon tennis tournament.

Twitter to Put Promoted Tweets in Your Timeline in Next 2 Months

Twitter has now vaguely announced when its ads are coming online - placing paid-for tweets right in the middle of your Twitter stream. Promoted tweets will start showing up in users’ timelines within the next 8 weeks, apparently.

Twitter has been aggressively courting advertisers in the last few weeks, assuring them that promoted tweets are no experiment. They won’t just appear in Twitter search or Hootsuite, as in the company’s tentative moves in this direction in the past year. Nor will they be banished to the sidelines of Twitter.com, the way promoted trends are. They’re coming very soon, they’re here to stay, and the company is looking into ways to make sure we’ll see them — such as making the promoted tweets “sticky”, so they stay at the top of the page no matter how far you scroll down.

Compare brands

Here is an interesting little concept, by JWT. Create little characters based on brands, a bit like Top Trumps.

A great idea and it will be shown across the land in marketing meetings and brand show and tells. For me its a start but we need more in two key ways. Firstly, the social aspect of this is great in that like Wikipedia it is the users rather than brands that have the say. So realtime trending built in has got to be the way forward. Secondly, we have comparison so let us take this further – fights like TheMostAwesomeThingEver or battle bots have got to be in the future. Now that would be a site!

Carbon Neutral

Did you know that the Phenotype site is carbon neutral, courtesy of one of our clients who are strangely enough called Carbon Neutral?

As such we are one of some 1500 sites and companies that are certified CO2 Neutral worldwide. Here are just a few of them. CO2 Neutral was one of the first and one of the only companies to offset personal use on things like Facebook, for which it has a rather clever algorithm.
